Sept. 14 (UPI) — In a captivating video that has taken the internet by storm, a British cyclist has earned the nickname “cow whisperer” after a remarkable encounter with a herd of wayward cows on a narrow roadway.
As Andrew O’Connor was on his way to ride his bicycle up Great Dun Fell, near the small village of Knock, England, he paused to change the batteries on his GoPro camera. It was during this break that he spotted a herd of cows ahead.
Fascinated by the sight, O’Connor decided to turn on his camera and record a video of the cows. However, he quickly found himself in an unexpected situation when the herd bypassed the open gate they were supposed to go through.
“They went past the open gate,” O’Connor shared with Cycling Weekly. “and the farmer at the back just started screaming. I didn’t have a clue what to do.”
With the cows potentially posing a threat, especially given the narrow road surrounded by stone walls, a video captured the farmer shouting instructions to O’Connor. The farmer demonstrated the hand gestures needed to give instructions to the cattle.
“A bit out of my comfort zone here,” O’Connor admits in the video after successfully getting the cows to “stop” through his calls.
Soon after the video went viral, the daughter of the farmer reached out to O’Connor through social media, expressing her father’s amusement regarding the newfound fame of his cows and his gratitude for the cyclist’s assistance.
O’Connor reflects on the experience and shares a valuable lesson he learned, stating, “Fake it until you make it, just put a brave face on,” during an interview with ABC News.
