Numerous thieves raid Nordstrom in Canoga Park mall – Orange County Register

A shocking incident took place at the Westfield Topanga mall in Canoga Park where a group of thieves stormed the Nordstrom store, causing chaos and stealing merchandise worth an estimated $60,000 to $100,000. The Los Angeles Police Department promptly responded to the scene after receiving reports of 20 to 50 individuals rushing through the store, grabbing items and leaving a mess behind. Although no arrests were made, the Los Angeles Fire Department was called in for an assault report, but there were no injuries requiring hospitalization.

Disturbing videos captured the scene of the crime, showing the thieves, dressed in black and most of them wearing masks, frantically grabbing clothes and making a quick escape.

The investigation is still ongoing, and it has been determined that the stolen merchandise amounts to $60,000 to $100,000.

In response to this incident, Mayor Karen Bass expressed her outrage, stating, “What happened today at the Nordstrom in the Topanga Mall is absolutely unacceptable. Those who committed these acts and similar acts in neighboring areas must be held accountable.”

The LAPD also commented on social media, emphasizing the impact of these crimes on the community, saying, “To criminals, it is just property taken. To those who live in the area and patronize the Topanga Mall, it is a loss of feeling safe. The LAPD will do everything possible to apprehend the culprits and pursue criminal charges.”

Interestingly, this is not the first time the same Nordstrom store has been targeted. In November 2021, it was hit by robbers in a similar “flash mob” style. Additionally, a recent incident in Glendale at the Americana at Brand mall involved a coordinated group rushing into a store and stealing merchandise worth approximately $300,000.

These flash mob burglaries have become a concerning trend, with the suspects overwhelming staff, seizing as much merchandise as possible, and escaping in multiple vehicles. Videos of these crimes continue to circulate widely, drawing attention to the growing issue.
