Attempting to Assist at Rodeo: An Unexpected Descent into Chaos

Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician and current Republican congressman, showcased his medical training when he responded to a medical emergency at a Texas rodeo on Saturday. However, to his surprise, Jackson was detained and handcuffed, as reported by his team and eyewitnesses. According to Jackson’s office, he was called to assist a 15-year-old girl experiencing medical issues at the White Deer event. When he arrived, he discovered that the girl was already being helped by a nurse who happened to be a relative. There were no uniformed EMS providers on the scene, so the nurse welcomed Jackson’s assistance. However, in the chaotic environment, confusion arose with the law enforcement present. Unfortunately, Jackson was briefly prevented from further assisting the patient and detained. Once it was established that he was a doctor, Jackson was immediately released.

Linda Shouse, a home health-care nurse, recounted the incident in a Facebook post. She mentioned that her 15-year-old cousin was having a seizure, possibly due to hypoglycemia, and Jackson intervened to help. Shouse claimed that when the police arrived, she was physically assaulted, while Jackson faced verbal abuse. The situation escalated, and Jackson was forcefully detained and handcuffed. However, once it was realized that he was a doctor and a congressman, he was promptly released. Shouse confirmed that the teenager who experienced the medical emergency is now safe at home and undergoing further evaluation.

The Texas Tribune highlighted that it is unclear who exactly detained Jackson, as both White Deer and nearby Gray County EMS workers, along with Carson County deputies, were present at the scene. Carson County Sheriff Tam Terry acknowledged that one person was temporarily detained, and the incident is currently under review. Jackson’s office clarified that he was not consuming alcohol during the rodeo and was constantly visible to the crowd. The reasons for making this statement remain unknown. Despite the ordeal, the focus remains on the wellbeing of the teenager involved in the medical emergency.
