Identification of Man Killed in Hit-and-Run SUV Incident Determined by Medical Examiner’s Office

Authorities are seeking assistance from the public in locating the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run incident in Wilmington. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Juan Jose Areyan of Wilmington by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner, was tragically killed while lighting fireworks. Paramedics received the call for help on Monday evening at around 9:10 p.m., responding to the 700 block of North Fries Avenue near West G Street. Brian Humphrey, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, provided this information.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the SUV that struck Areyan was traveling at a high speed north on Fries Avenue from G Street. Areyan was dragged approximately 85 feet by the SUV before being dislodged and subsequently hit by a second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene, but the driver of the SUV fled without stopping to provide aid, violating the law.

Tragically, Areyan was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. In an effort to bring justice to Areyan’s family and hold the responsible driver accountable, a reward of up to $50,000 is being offered to individuals who provide information that leads to the identification, apprehension, conviction, or resolution through a civil compromise in this fatal hit-and-run case.
