YouTuber Trisha Paytas has issued a response to the allegations surrounding her podcast cohost, Colleen Ballinger.
In a 21-minute video, Paytas revealed that Ballinger had shared her explicit OnlyFans photos with underage fans and body-shamed her.
Ballinger released a 10-minute YouTube video titled “hi.” to address the allegations of inappropriate behavior with her young fans.
Ballinger, known for her eccentric character Miranda Sings, strummed a ukulele and sang a song directed at former fans who felt uncomfortable with their interactions with her.
Additional accusations against Ballinger include sending lingerie, discussing sex in group chats, and engaging in behavior during stage shows that some fans found violating.
Ballinger has been creating content since 2008 and gained fame through her character Miranda Sings, appearing on talk shows, having her own Netflix series, performing on Broadway, and publishing books.
Paytas, who has a longstanding YouTube career, expressed her strong stance against adults interacting with minors, driven by her own past trauma.
While Paytas believed in the potential for growth and change in people who take accountability, she was “shocked” by Ballinger’s response to the allegations.
“I was just shocked to say the last that she didn’t at least acknowledge the stuff her own fans were saying, how they felt, to brush it over the way she did,” Paytas expressed.
Paytas had previously supported Ballinger during the initial wave of allegations, as she understood the experience of being canceled due to her own controversial past.
However, upon seeing leaked text messages between Ballinger and fans, including the sharing of Paytas’ nude photos without consent, Paytas felt she couldn’t ignore the situation.
One former fan, YouTuber Adam McIntyre, alleged receiving the same explicit photos from Ballinger at the age of 14 or 15, raising concerns about potential illegality.
Paytas condemned the act of sending unsolicited nudes and using them to harm, mock, or degrade someone, emphasizing her support for sex workers and the need to respect boundaries.
While Paytas wasn’t personally humiliated, she emphasized the vulnerability of having one’s naked body ridiculed and pointed out that Ballinger’s actions were not isolated incidents.
Despite discussing the allegations with Ballinger, who dismissed them as “lies” and “taken out of context,” Paytas felt betrayed and triggered by the leaked messages.
“It’s pretty barbaric, it’s pretty misogynistic,” Paytas stated. “And it is downright cruel. It’s a low, low level of a person to say that stuff.”
