Guerrero sets sights on another Home Run Derby appearance

TORONTO – Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has heeded the call of Toronto Blue Jays fans and his family, announcing his return to Major League Baseball’s home run derby.

Guerrero is set to compete in the slugging exhibition on July 10 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. This will be his second time participating in the event after setting a rookie record with 91 home runs in 2019.

“For the past two years, my family has been asking me to participate,” Guerrero revealed after batting practice at Toronto’s Rogers Centre on Thursday. “They asked me again this year, and I said, ‘Alright, if you guys want me to go, I’ll be there this year.'”

In the previous derby, Guerrero fell short in the final, losing 23-22 to New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso. So far, the only other confirmed participant in this year’s event is Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez.
