According to federal officials, human body parts that were sold on social media and at a place called Kat’s Creepy Creations were stolen from Harvard Medical School. Cedric Lodge, the morgue manager at the school, has been indicted for taking heads, brains, bones, skin, and other body parts from dissected cadavers that were scheduled for cremation. Lodge and his wife, Denise Lodge, then sold these body parts via social media. Some of the alleged buyers have also been charged with trafficking human remains.
One of the buyers, Katrina MacLean of Salem, reportedly paid $600 for two faces and sold them at Kat’s Creepy Creations. Joshua Taylor of Pennsylvania made 39 PayPal payments to Denise Lodge, totaling $37,355.56, over a period of nearly 3 years. The payments referenced “head number 7” and “braiiiiiins,” according to court documents. Lodge allegedly allowed buyers to come to the morgue to select the body parts they wanted to purchase. Lodge was fired on May 6th, as reported by NBC Boston.
In a message from the medical school’s dean, these actions were described as an “abhorrent betrayal” and “morally reprehensible.” The school is currently reviewing their records to determine which anatomical donors may have been impacted by Lodge’s actions.
US Attorney Gerard M. Karam referred to these crimes as an “egregious” theft and trafficking of human remains, stating that it strikes at the very essence of what makes us human. He emphasized the importance of seeking justice for the victims who volunteered their remains for medical education and scientific advancement.
