Sept. 18 (UPI) — Two long-overdue books have been returned to an Ontario home after making a journey of over 600 miles from a library in Massachusetts.
The Middlesex County Library announced that a package recently arrived at their Dorchester branch via mail, originating from the Claire T. Carney Library at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, which is located over 600 miles away.
The package contained two books, namely G.M. Ford’s No Man’s Land and Cathy Pickens’ Hog Wild, both of which had been previously checked out at the Dorchester branch, although the exact date is unknown.
Although the books were no longer recorded in the library’s system, they were added to its collection in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Librarians estimate that they were last checked out approximately seven years ago.
Aimee Sparzynski, the coordinator of technical services at the Dorchester library, mentioned that these books weren’t even the most well-traveled volumes to be mailed back to the library.
“A few years ago, we received a book all the way from Paris. A patron had borrowed it to read on a plane and accidentally left it behind at their hotel,” Sparzynski revealed in an interview with CBC News.
