Toyota unveils GR Sport II, a bold evolution of the Hilux for Europe
Toyota has introduced the GR Sport II, a more visually striking version of the Hilux for the European market. This top-of-the-range truck boasts an updated exterior design, improved handling with a wider track, and increased ground clearance.
The GR Sport II stands out from other Hilux models with distinctive features such as a “TOYOTA” lettering and “GR” emblem on the grille, a more aerodynamic front bumper, and wheel arch flares. It also comes standard with a black spoiler and a folding tonneau cover.
Inside, the GR Sport II offers sport seats, red seatbelts, shift paddles, and aluminum pedal caps. Unlike the basic versions of the Hilux, this model includes advanced technology features like an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility, and a cloud-based navigation system.
The wheel arch flares serve a functional purpose, as Toyota widened the front and rear tracks by 5.5 inches and 6.1 inches respectively. This wider stance provides improved handling both on and off the road, and the increased suspension lift enhances the truck’s approach angle.
In terms of comfort, the GR Sport II offers a smoother ride thanks to new dampers, lighter 17-inch wheels, and improved body roll control. Additionally, braking performance has been enhanced with larger front discs and the replacement of rear drum brakes with discs.
Mechanically, the GR Sport II remains unchanged from the standard Hilux, utilizing the 2.8-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine delivering 201 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. It is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case, allowing for rear or all-wheel drive. The truck boasts a towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds and a payload of approximately 2,200 pounds.
The Toyota Hilux GR Sport II will be available for sale in select European markets from early 2024. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
