2023 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Rankings: Ja’Marr Chase and Tyreek Hill at the Top

In the realm of fantasy football, my top pick for a wide receiver in the 2023 season is none other than Cincinnati Bengals star, Ja’Marr Chase. Alongside him, I have Tyreek Hill from the Miami Dolphins, who also ranks high on my list. Rounding out the top 5 options are Justin Jefferson, Cooper Kupp, and A.J. Brown. The likes of Stefon Diggs, Davante Adams, CeeDee Lamb, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Garrett Wilson claim spots within the top 10.

As the 2023 NFL regular season kicks off on September 7, when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions, countless individuals will be engaging in fantasy football drafts in the weeks leading up to the season opener. It is crucial to prepare and devise a pre-draft strategy for a successful selection process. When analyzing players, I consider factors such as talent, injury history, team performance expectations, and consistent production. It is also important to take into account schedule strength, bye weeks, and other such factors when constructing your team.

To facilitate the process, I have divided my top wide receiver targets into five tiers: Hall of Fame, All-Pro, Pro Bowl, Just Napping (early to mid-round targets), and Deep Sleepers (mid- to late-round sleepers). Here is a breakdown of my Top 100 positional rankings:

Hall of Fame:
1. Ja’Marr Chase
2. Tyreek Hill
3. Justin Jefferson
4. Cooper Kupp

Ja’Marr Chase claims the top spot due to his proven track record, his partnership with quarterback Joe Burrow, and the stage of his career. If Burrow plays at least 16 games, I expect him to lead the NFL in touchdown passes this season. Chase, being his top target, has received an astonishing 262 looks in his first two seasons. Despite missing five games, he received a career-high 134 targets last season and scored nine times in 12 games. Anticipate Chase to surpass 100 catches this season, which should result in over 1,600 yards and at least 10 touchdowns. Tyreek Hill was a strong contender for the top position as well. He had a breakthrough season last year, accumulating a career-high 1,710 receiving yards and 119 catches despite not always playing alongside quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. With Tagovailoa entering his second season in coach Mike McDaniel’s offense, Hill is projected to exceed 100 catches for 1,600 yards and near 10 touchdowns.

All-Pro:
5. A.J. Brown
6. Stefon Diggs

A.J. Brown is one of my preferred options this year. The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver achieved career highs in catches (88) and yards (1,496) last season, complemented by 11 touchdowns. Entering his second season with quarterback Jalen Hurts, Brown is expected to receive almost 150 targets being part of one of the league’s top offenses. Brown’s fantasy production is further strengthened by the favorable schedule the Eagles have in 2023 based on their opponents’ performance in 2022. Stefon Diggs, on the other hand, has consistently proven himself as one of the NFL’s most reliable playmakers. He has surpassed 100 catches and 1,200 yards in each of the last three seasons while scoring 29 touchdowns during the same timeframe. Expect another prolific season from Diggs, with at least 150 targets, 100 catches, and 1,400 yards.

Pro Bowl:
7. Davante Adams
8. CeeDee Lamb
9. Amon-Ra St. Brown
10. Garrett Wilson

Despite inconsistent quarterback play from the Las Vegas Raiders, Davante Adams maintains his status as a top-tier wide receiver. He scored a league-leading 14 touchdowns last season, crossing the 100-catch mark for the third consecutive season and accumulating over 1,500 yards for the second year in a row. Adams is projected to achieve another 100 catches and double-digit touchdowns, making him a compelling option for late first-round or early second-round picks. Meanwhile, CeeDee Lamb has witnessed a significant rise in his performance. With quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading the New York Jets, Lamb is poised to excel in a rejuvenated offense. As a second-year pass catcher, Lamb is almost guaranteed over 95 catches, 1,400 yards, and eight touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown ranks ninth on my list, showcasing great potential in the Detroit Lions offense. With Garrett Wilson rounding out the Pro Bowl tier, expectations are high for him under the leadership of Rodgers.

Just Napping:
12. DeVonta Smith
13. Tee Higgins
14. Jaylen Waddle

DeVonta Smith, Tee Higgins, and Jaylen Waddle have earned recognition as some of the best second wide receivers in the NFL. Expected to be part of elite offenses in 2023, these pass catchers are strong contenders for WR1 positions in fantasy football. Of particular interest is Jaylen Waddle, who led the league with 18.1 yards per catch last season. With defenses focused on slowing down Tyreek Hill, Waddle is projected to achieve at least 85 catches, approaching the 1,400-yard mark, and potentially recording double-digit touchdowns.

Deep Sleepers:
29. George Pickens
36. Jaxon Smith-Njigba
50. Adam Thielen

While not consistently expected to deliver WR1 production, George Pickens, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Adam Thielen offer potential for points in favorable matchups. Pickens, in particular, is worth monitoring as a WR2/WR3 option, especially for deeper leagues. Despite poor quarterback play, Pickens managed 52 catches for 801 yards and four touchdowns last season. With improved passers in the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, Pickens is likely to benefit from greater consistency, potentially achieving his first 1,000-yard season and scoring at least eight times.

These rankings are a guide to assist you in making sound decisions for your fantasy football team. The wide receiver position holds paramount importance, and with these rankings in mind, you can curate a formidable roster.
