146 pounds of cocaine discovered concealed within an ice cream maker by Border Patrol agents

Customs and Border Protection agents made a significant drug seizure when they discovered 146 pounds of cocaine cleverly hidden in an ice cream maker, according to officials who announced the incident on Thursday.

The agents intercepted a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck at the Bridge of the Americas cargo facility on June 19, as it was crossing the border from Mexico to the U.S., as detailed in a news release provided by the officials. Using X-ray technology, officers noticed a commercial ice cream maker in the bed of the truck, which was flagged by a customs dog. The subsequent investigation unveiled 56 bundles of cocaine concealed inside the ice cream maker.

The driver, identified as a 43-year-old Mexican man, was handed over to Texas law enforcement for further investigation and processing, stated the officials.

El Paso’s Acting Port Director, Luis Mejia, shared his thoughts on this seizure, saying, “Seizures like this remind us all that drugs can be concealed almost anywhere.”

Drug traffickers have recently resorted to unconventional methods to avoid detection, such as hiding narcotics in unexpected items. For instance, in June, an anti-drug unit in Uruguay discovered cocaine hidden within surfboards destined for Europe. Five surfboards contained a total of 90 pounds of cocaine.

Similarly, Italian authorities uncovered a major cocaine shipment totaling three tons concealed in a banana container. The bananas, transported in refrigerated silver containers, were en route from Ecuador to Armenia.

In a peculiar incident, South Carolina law enforcement encountered a woman they believed to be pregnant, only to realize that her apparent belly was actually a disguise. The woman attempted to flee, and in doing so, drugs fell from her fake rubber stomach.
